The journal focuses on all aspects of the Quaternary. This scope is intentionally broad, and covers a range of specialisms such as geomorphology, palaeoclimatology, palaeobotany, palynology, palaeontology, zooarchaeology, geoarchaeology, biological anthropology and Palaeolithic archaeology.
The Open Quaternary site has received around 60,000 page views since its launch in March 2015, with the most accessed publication currently having been viewed/downloaded over 11,000 times. All publications are widely indexed for enhanced dissemination and findability. Average submission to publication times are currently around 140 days.
Open Quaternary are happy to announce a summer photo competition. We would love it if you could send us photos from your summer fieldwork/labwork/research project. Photos can be informative, funny, pretty etc etc, so long as they relate to the subject area of the journal.
To submit a photo, simply post your picture on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with @OpenQuaternary and #OQSummer included within the message. We will then share all the best pictures via our social media profiles.
Each month we will announce which image we think is best from the past 30 days. We will also announce the overall winners of the competition in October, where the winning images will be presented on the Open Quaternary journal site, along with a biography of the winner and the project that is being displayed. As well as providing great photos, we hope this will also give your own works a little additional coverage.
The competition is now open, with submissions considered until 1st October 2018.

We are now looking to increase our Editorial Board, with the aim of widening the depth and breadth of expertise to ensure that all areas of Quaternary science are adequately covered. We invite all interested individuals to submit their details for consideration.
The main role of a board member is to act as an advocate of the journal and help advance submissions and reputation, as well as provide occasional help in the processing or reviewing of submissions. We encourage Editorial Board members to proactively network and promote the journal, think creatively about new ways of attracting interest, and solicit content from colleagues where appropriate.
The current Editorial team can be viewed at https://www.openquaternary.com/about/editorialteam/
Whilst we are looking to expand the Editorial Board in all areas, we are especially keen to recruit individuals with research areas in the below disciplines:
